General Hospital (GH) spoilers tease that Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) has a big decision to make. As GH viewers know, Nikolas recently received a letter from his son Spencer Cassadine (Nicolas Bechtel) saying that they could have their father/son relationship back if Nikolas dumped his wife Ava Jerome (Maura West). Of course, that puts Nikolas in a bind because if divorces Ava, then he loses the bulk of the Cassadine fortune.
Well, from a surface level it seems like it’s a no-brainer for Nikolas to choose a happy future and relationship with his son over the likes of Ava. But that would forfeit the fortune that Nikolas hopes to pass on to Spencer someday, and he doesn’t want to do that. That puts Nikolas between a rock and a hard place as he now has to grapple with what to do.
But could there be another option for Nikolas? Sometimes the best choice is actually a third option that nobody ever considered. This seems to be what Laura Collins (Genie Francis) was getting at when she cryptically counseled Nikolas to talk with Spencer.
It didn’t seem entirely clear to the audience exactly what Laura was suggesting, but Nikolas seemed to understand what his mother was saying.
What if Nikolas were to go to Spencer and explain the dilemma to him? Even though Spencer might be initially upset that Nikolas isn’t willing to immediately ditch Ava, Spencer might change his tune when he learns about the post-nup and its terms.
After all, Spencer can’t stand Ava, and he probably won’t want her to have her hands on the fortune that’s supposed to eventually be his.
Perhaps Nikolas and Spencer can come up with some sort of plot to string Ava along and make her think that they’re still estranged when really they’re in cahoots to make sure that Ava never gets the Cassadine fortune. For Spencer, it would probably just be a matter of waiting and pretending to continue being angry with his father.
And there’s another angle here that hasn’t been brought up on the show but could play a role in deciding who ultimately walks away with the Cassadine fortune, and it has to do with Hayden Barnes (Rebecca Budig).
It’s entirely possible that Nikolas was still married to Hayden when he married Ava, and that’s something that Spencer could work on from afar – after all, Spencer’s pretty crafty and he could electronically track down proof of Nikolas’ marriage to Hayden, which would make Nikolas and Ava’s marriage – and their post-nup – null and void.
Plus, it would make for a dramatic moment if Spencer were to eventually turn back up at Wyndemere with a big announcement – that Nikolas and Ava’s marriage was never legal and that the Cassadine fortune still belonged to Nikolas and himself.
Ava would be absolutely stunned to find out that Nikolas and Spencer played her, and that her big post-nup scheme was a bust.
We’ll see what eventually happens when the show picks back up, but we’d sure love to see Spencer and Nikolas get together, make up, and take on Ava in this fashion!
