Haile Selassie was born in Ejersa Goro, Ethiopia on July 23, 1892. A political leader who served as Regent of Ethiopia from 1916 to 1930 and as Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. He facilitated Ethiopia’s entrance into the United Nations. He lived in exile during Benito Mussolini‘s World War II-era control of Ethiopia. He initially served under the government of Empress Zewditu. When he seized power in 1928, he forced the Empress to crown him King of Ethiopia.
