In tonight’s Rookie: Fed, joining Garza’s elite team has been a dream come true for Simone Clark. She loves her work. She loves traveling for her work. She gets to visit amazing places and tonight she went to an island in the Caribbean to apprehend a fugitive. Bernie Barlow was his name. He was asked to turn in evidence against his employer. The US Attorney has evidence against him if he doesn’t testify and yet he still chose to run. Bernie left behind his family to go live the high life in the Caribbean. The AUSA on the case wanted him caught and so that’s where Garza’s team became involved. They were asked to hunt down this key witness.

Simone traveled to the island with her superior, FBI Special Agent Carter Hope. The two of them were forced to check their weapons because they didn’t have jurisdiction on the island. They also had to rely on the goodwill of the local police. Only the police were choosing to be difficult. They kept telling Carter that he has no place making demands because he was a guest in their country. The Chief of Police was a jerk. He didn’t even bother to wear plain clothes on the op. He said he was running the op and that he could do whatever he liked. The only reason Carter and Simone found Bernie was thanks to sheer luck.

Bernie wandered on by them. The local police gave away they were looking for the guy and so Bernie tried to run, but Simone got him by using a motorbike. Running on the sand wasn’t for her. The motorbike was also quicker than Carter and the local police were. Anyways, they caught their guy. They put him in the back of the car. Carter was in the back with him. Simone was driving. All three were supposed to get a police escort to the airport and that didn’t happen. The police escort drove away and left them. They couldn’t figure out why until a group of armed men tried to hold them up. The local police had apparently betrayed them.

They were led right into a trap. Simone was able to reverse the car and get out of the situation only they survived because thanks again luck came in. Also, Simone is a very skilled driver. The armed men had tried firing at them and luckily no one was hurt. But firing at them did speak volumes. It showed that the men didn’t care if Bernie died and so they weren’t going to hold him for ransom. They wanted him dead. The only one who wanted the same was his employer. Nugenius Industries started to rid the AUSA of his key witnesses. One witness checked themselves into a mental facility. And the other just plain got cold feet.

Barlow was the last standing witness to the case. If he goes, there is no case. This was why his former employers were trying to get rid of him and so Simone and her team had to sneak him back into the United States. Simone first had to sneak back into town to get a burner phone. She then used the phone to call her boss. He told her that help was on the way and that he was sending a plane to their nearest location to come to pick them up. But Simone first had to evade capture by the local police. It wasn’t until she did so that she was able to get back to Carter and Bernie and the two drove in their new car to the airport.

They got on the flight. They got Bernie back to LA, but by that point, Bernie was refusing to assist the AUSA with his case. He said he’d rather go to jail. Simone talked to him one on one. They bonded on the island and she told him that he would be separated from his daughter for a long time. But Bernie is okay with that separation. He lost custody in his divorce. He got divorced because he has a gambling problem and likes sleeping with other women. He, therefore, wasn’t going to risk the payday from his employers if it meant his daughter would be set up for life. Bernie only came around when Simone convinced his daughter would prefer him over the money.

The team couldn’t be happy about that for long because another case took up their time. Garza’s niece bought a used handbag online and she found diamonds in it. She brought it to her uncle. They went ripping into the bag and they found even more diamonds. The diamonds were recently reported stolen in an armored truck heist. It was two women that carried off the heist. The handbag belonged to one of those women. She had been murdered. Her husband began selling off her stuff and he accidentally gave away the diamonds. The FBI had the case for about two days when they solved it.

They figured out who the late woman’s friend in the heist was. They also proved that she wanted to go on the run from her husband because he’s abusive and controlling and that’s who murdered her. The FBI solved the heist as well as the murder. Elena got back her handbag, but the day wasn’t over just yet. The FBI also learned that the AUSA on the Neurogenics case was taking a bribe from said company. It’s how they knew of the witnesses and how they knew when the feds arrested Bernie. And so Simone and Carter had to race to save Bernie’s life again. Bernie left with the AUSA to collect evidence and, while the feds weren’t there in time to stop him from destroying evidence, they were there when Bernie took down the guy.

Luck came in handy again because Bernie has a backup drive of the evidence. He also used the fact he was almost killed by an AUSA to get a better deal for himself.

The backup drive was on the island and so this time the whole team went there to go collect it. And finally, close this case.

THE END!
